The Ghana Cassava Centre of Excellence (GCCE) and the Techiman North District Assembly (TNDA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote cassava enterprises development and largely, provide socio economic development in the country.

As part of the arrangement signed at Tuobodom in the Bono East Region, both parties are expected to carry out some agreed upon obligations to ensure the attainment of the objective of the MoU.

The Crops Research Institute (CRI) of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) has signed agreements with a private sector cassava extension agency to improve the agronomy and utilization of cassava.

Dr. Maxwell Darko Asante, Deputy Director, CSIR-CRI, speaking at the signing ceremony between the CRI and the Ghana Cassava Center of Excellence at Fumesua, in the Ejisu Municipality in the Ashanti Region, said cassava was an important food crop whose potentials needed to be harnessed and the private sector’s involvement was key to achieving that goal.

The Ghana Cassava Centre of Excellence has asked the government to develop a flour policy with a 10 per cent high quality cassava flour inclusion to promote the utilisation of cassava in the country.

The association explained that considering such clause in the policy would help secure market and sustain business for farmers because cassava had a great impact on the lives of the rural people as well as a great potential for industrialisation.
