Current Projects

1. Cassava Productivity Project is a project being implemented to help smallholder farmers to increase yield per acre. Mechanization is one key element of productivity besides, irrigation and soil fertility management are among the key components of productivity indicators. We train producers on Good Agricultural Practices, Climate Smart Agriculture and inclusive business models to enable producers adopt new technologies to enhance their farming operations. GCCE is currently providing Technical Assistance to roll-out a cassava  Extension services to farmers to increase productivity.

2. Cassava Amplified Seed Entrepreneurship Project is a novelty project specifically targeted at improving the cassava seed system business model. Currently, there is increased private sector appetite for cassava enterprise investment. However, access to improved, high-starch-content varieties is a huge challenge. That is the gap we are seeking to bridge. Currently GCCE has been certified by the Plant Protection and Regulatory Services Directorate (PPRSD) of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture as a Seed Producer.

GCCE is establishing Cassava Seed Multiplication Centres across the country. Among the certified  cassava varieties being multiplied are Ampong, Sika Bankye, Doku Duade, Amansan, Bankye Botan, Nkabom, AGRA, Abrabopa, and Esam Bankye.

3. Equipment Fabricators Skills-up Project is targeted at enhancing the skills and knowledge of local equipment fabricators in the manufacturing of cassava flash dryers, thereby contributing to the sustainability and growth of the cassava industry.

4. High Quality Cassava Flour (HQCF) Blend Project is targeted at strengthening the value chain to scale-up existing technologies for increased incomes by processors. Since its establishment 11 years ago, GCCE has consistently advocated for Composite Flour Policy to blend HQCF with wheat flour. In Ghana, the plywood, paper and other manufacturing industries are using HQCF as intermediary raw material to produce finished products.

5. Cassava Green Skills and Innovation Project: This project is a Waste-to-Income model which encourages proper disposal, recycling and reuse of waste to create an additional blended income for cassava producers and processors. Currently, we are prototyping cassava waste for mushroom and animal feed. The results are pretty good. This project seeks to incorporate climate-smart agriculture and other technologies that would help to transform cassava waste into useful products. The objective of this project is to contribute to a sustainable environmental protection, public health, and sanitation.
